In Daddy’s Home, the pairing of actors Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg return for another promising comedy. This time around Mark Wahlberg plays a returning biological father returning into town, just as the stepfather, played by Will Ferrell, is starting to settle in with his new family. This pairing was entertaining the first time around in 2010’s The Other Guys, will Daddy’s Home live up to the pairs track record?
Will Ferrell has a reputation for playing Hollywood’s biggest man child. Films like Elf, Stepbrothers, and Talladega Nights spotlight the role he is best known for. I however, find him much more comical in roles such as the one he played in Daddy’s Home. I enjoy Will Ferrell’s portrayal of the corky nerd rather than the over-the-top man-child.
Mark Wahlberg also played well in this film as well. Mark Wahlberg’s comedic timey is better than most give him credit for. He played the role of the lovable but devious foil well. He even gives some chuckle worthy moments.
As for the movie itself, it is clearly a comedy. You don’t go to see a comedy looking for deep subplots and rich character development. So the main question everyone is seeking for a comedy is rather or not it is funny. There were better comedies to make the big screen this year. This movie is no Get Hard, another Will Ferrell comedy from this past March. However, Daddy’s Home is worthy of a date night. It offers several funny moments and a few twists near the end of the movie that are hilarious.
