Reel Talk: Recent Trailers 12/15/15

TMNT

The TMNT movie from 2014 was a bit of a surprise. It wasn’t as much of a disappointment as I felt it would be. Granted, it wasn’t the movie I was hoping it to be either. Of course there were some major flaws that I hope this sequel corrects.

For one, I’m a fan of Stephen Amell. I hope the addition of him as Casey Jones will balance out the bland acting of the eye-candy Megan Fox. I’m rooting for Tyler Perry in this film. He wasn’t bad in Alex Cross but he gets a bad rep for his Madea character. And we will get to see Bebop and Rocksteady on the big screen.

As for the trailer, this film looks the same as the previous one. If memory serves me right, the first trailer of the 2014 movie was very similar in style. I’m not sold on this movie yet, but I am curious.

Tarzan

Now let’s go a bit off the beaten path. Sure there are all kinds of nerdy trailers dropping lately with Civil War, Superman v Batman, and TMNT. This trailer has kind of flown under the radar. The cast of this film is diverse and filled with talent. I have to say this trailer alerted me to a movie I really wasn’t looking for.

The tone of the trailer and the nuggets of plot that was dropped within the clips have intrigued me. Tarzan is an intellectual property Hollywood hasn’t gotten right in the modern era. Yet it has always held a lot of potential if approached correctly. This film is now on my radar. We’ll see what the next trailer holds for us.

Game of Thrones Season 6 Teaser

This particular trailer is not for a movie but for an HBO series. The Game of Thrones as both entertained and frustrated fans for five years with its dark plots and carefree attitude towards killing main characters. This trailer is a reflection of that frustration. It serves as a reminder that bad stuff has happened to all of people.

The focus of this trailer centered on Jon Snow which I found odd. Executives and the actor himself have said the character is dead. Yet speculation has flourished online with theories on how he could return. If you don’t intend to bring back the character, why continue to rub salt in the wound with a teaser like this.

Of course the clip of Bran and his voice saying they have no idea what’s coming is both true for the fate of Jon Snow as well as the plot. Up until now, the show has followed the plot of George R. R. Martin’s books. But the show has caught up with George who hasn’t published a sequel novel since the show’s inception in 2011. I have to say as a fan of the novels, I’m disappointed.

However, I’m sure the show will continue its greatness. I can’t wait to see some actual footage from the new season. I’m sure more teasers will follow as April approaches.
